Some years back when the UP still owned the branch they had a major tie replacement project and dumped piles of the creosote soaked ties along the ROW. Immediately the expected hue and cry arose from the Cruzan residents that these ties were cancer causing and etc. etc. So the UP dutifully returned and covered each pile with plastic tarps or some such. Of course the Cruzans neglected to mention that creosote pilings were rampant at the wharf and in the marina and etc. Oh well, you gotta love those people. :-)
