Back In the 80s some friends took me and some other friends through those Amtrak "heritige" cars stored in a yard known as "Old Mexico" near 8th Street Yard in L.A. I will never forget that smell. I think it was crunchy decomposing foam rubber from the seat cushions. That and bum piss or worse. I agree with Smitty 195, diesel exhaust especialy from 1st and 2nd generation locomotives on Tehachapi and any other 2% or better grade is my favorite. Smells like.....victory.
