Erik, you are forgetting the double - ended nature of the Cascades Talgos trainsets. With the use of un - powered F - 40 cab cars, and now Mader on the new trainsets, the trains can change ends in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, and Eugene without the need to wye the train, or at least the power. This is a significant savings in time.
