You are quite right. The trail itself won't stand in the way of anything. What will stand in the way is always the same sort of anarchy that is already rampant in Caliphonyia and is already quite evident in the actions of tresspassing trail freaks.

It will go down the same way the attempted expansion at U.C. Berkeley is going, which has so far completely failed. The property in question there was lawfully purchased with taxpayer money expressly for future expansion. But in the meantime, it was left as "Open Space". Now we see extremist tree sitters blocking that expansion - won't leave; and the liberal packed california courts issuing stay after stay - thus thwarting the lawful purpose for which it was appropriated. I guess my kids don't deserve the education we taxpayers have already paid for - just because the those anarchists say so.

Perhaps you remember the "Peoples Park" riots of the sixties. The rule of law collapsed then. Now, 40 years later, its still collapsed - and getting worse. The campus housing the "park" property was appropiated for is still not built after 40 years, the land being stolen. And they continue to take a mile for every inch the taxpayers give!

In the Bay Area already, trails that are NOW needed for rapid transit have already become sacred cows. The transit had to go elsewhere - Miles away! Thosands of people in the Danville area still have no transit close by.

No trail has ever been given up to rail, ever! - never will be! If you lose this rail line, those anarchists will not allow it to come back ever - no matter what they have to do. Their real purpose isn't trails anyway - its the end of industrial age the're after. Already happening in the North Coast.

What apocalypse? Its simple reality! The future is here now! We will not , as a people, ever again be able to afford total reliance on the automobile or long haul trucks. Anywhere! Already can't afford it! The need for universally available alternative ground transportation (rail) is already critical - and literally exploding in our faces. Our economy is already in trouble.

As a people, we must begin NOW to learn to use the automobile for what it is good at (mostly short non-repetitive trips), while using rail for what it does best (repetitive day after day movements), not give up tracks for much less important recreational sports.

We have met the enemy --- And he is us!
