John, are you sure you mean Mexicali to Campo? Maybe you meant Tecate to Campo? Toyota has a truck assembly plant near Tecate now and apparently is intrested in shipping east. The real owmer of the old SD&AE MTDB (the San Diego Trolley people) has leased the east lines to 'Imperial Pacific'(?). The line needs lots of TLC (read money). A shallow tunnel near the border is collaped cutting of the Museum from the the old T&T line now being run for freight service by 'Baja California RR' from San Tsidro to Tecate. The line through the Gorge need investment because of old timber in tunnels and in bridges. The tunnels are big enough now for auto-racks.
