In its last years, the Modoc Line was in horrible shape. Rotten ties, lots of slow orders, and basically the line needed to be rebuilt from scratch. UP's line over the Blue Mountains is a superior line from Seattle and Portland to Ogden/Salt Lake with much higher speeds and CTC. Out of anyone, I would love to see it still running, but when you examine the costs, that was something that sadly just wasn't worth the expense.

It's too bad that Philip Anschutz couldn't get the SP coal export hauling plan from Colorado/Utah to the Port of Coos Bay off of the ground. I recall funding for the Port of Coos Bay fell through. Then the Modoc Line might still be here today.
