Let me offer up one more early morning armchair observation. A decade or so ago, perhaps even five years ago, UP manifests moving north and south through Eastport, ID, were usually on the order of 80-plus cars, sometimes pushing 130. There were some pretty anemic manifests showing up over the past few years, and so far this summer the axle counts crackling in over the scanner, for manifests, have usually been down in the 160 to 270 range. It can be a different story south of Spokane, where the MSKHK and MHKSK handle a reasonable number of cars to and from Spokane, and very large number of cars between Hinkle and Wallula. Even when the MSKHK has been seen leaving Spokane southbound light engine, it can have enough pickups at Hooper Jct., Ayer, and Wallula that it will be dragging itself up Cold Springs Grade.
