I was wondering if anybody from the Utah Southern would be reading this thread. Thought you would be interested to learn that your former units continue to earn their keep. Both the 3000 and the 3001 are reliable units, good pullers with excellent dynamics. Old units do have their quirks but you learn to live with them.
The one that continues to amaze me is our almost 60 year old GP7. Tough little unit but it gets to play with the big guys and contribute it's 1500hp to loaded grain trains. Pretty much in as built condition except for the chopped short hood and the 26L brakes.
1617 In Cheney 4/11/2012 ready to head west with SD45 8924.
1617 At MP 14 with DOT scale test car which is probably older than 1617. An eastbound BNSF oil train passes overhead on the Columbia River subdivision. 6/10/2013
