I worked with Rudy a few times when I was out of Hobart yard as a young conductor. I can't understand how the guy was able to stand being a union steward for all these years, what with the constant whining and trouble my fellow rails dumped on him, seasoned heavily with politics and backbiting. My hat is truly off for the guy and his family. His patience with complete idiots at all hours of the day and night is both remarkable and inspiring.

Although I don't know anything about his passing, I do recall he was off work for some time after being struck by a car in Barstow many years ago while crossing the street.

Only the good die young.
