I too am saddened by Rudy's passing. I also worked with him at BNSF, both as a conductor and as the ATM in San Diego.

I worked one trip out with him where I became very ill shortly after departing Barstow. He told me to go lay down in the second unit and that he would take care of anything that came up. Fortunatly, the DS parked us at Esperanza, just a few miles from my home. I was able to arrange a ride directly to home and he was more than gracious in taking care of all my paperwork when he got to Hobart.

I also found him very fair to deal with as the union official. He did represent the members of his union fairly but also understood that the railroad was in the business of moving freight. He didn't hesitate to tell a union member when their unjustified complaint was BS.
