Having been a railfan now for over 55 years I remember talking often about the "good old days". When steam ended on the SP, I'd venture to the deadline at Bayshore and think it's the end of the good old days. But the variety of diesel models, plus passenger service on private railroads got me to continue railfanning. Twenty or so years later the first generation stuff was mostly gone and so were the good old days. Now at our local slide-video nights we think of SD45s, tunnel motors, SW1500s, etc. as the good old days. If I live another ten years will I be thinking of AC and Dash 9 diesles as the good old days? Probably... even though today's new locomotives look to me like they forgot to take them out of the box.
