What used to be a booming quarry on HWY 121 near Sears Point is now a Ravenswood Winery. This quarry used to produce really good sub-base for roads and pack rock for dirt roads. The quarry used to own a hill just west of hwy 121 but it would have been visible to travelers if they started quarrying it so they couldn't get a permit to start digging. It's kind of funny because the old quarry was just out of sight on the east side of the highway behind a little berm (within 100 feet of the road). I was recently talking to the former quarry manager and he told me that all the rock they are getting now is from Canada hauled in by barge - that would be the new port on the Petaluma River.
