Kyle,
The PV stored on an NWP siding during the seventies, adjacent to the Eli Hutchison quarry (before there was a Larkspur Landing), were once owned by Ed Nervo.
His odd collection of retired RR rolling stock included an ex-Santa Maria Valley steam locomotive (no. 21 I think), along with some retired freight cars.
One day, while ogling his equipment I came upon Ed, his wife and daughter. He was introduced as the owner, and I soon learned that he was a member of the Nervo winery family in Geyserville. Same folks with the beautiful stone building at the time being served by a spur from the NWP. I don't recall his plans for the rolling stock, but upon his passing the some of it was scattered about the country. You can find his ex-PFE ice bunker reefer on public display in Sebastopol, just outside the former P&SR depot. \
I suppose his RR collection exceeded track capacity of the family's railroad spur. (Just like a model railroader's collection of rolling stock, eh?)
Incidentally, according to a Google search, SMV 21 is currently rostered at the Astoria Railroad in Oregon, and is undergoing restoration for tourist excursion service.
