Thanks, I was confused by the "c" designations in the PA's. I did know that some of these were AB only configurations. I guess I saw 51C on mail trains, late at night, and saw the numbering of the other units, and just assumed that these early units followed the same scheme, as the F's.
I also believe I heard somewhere that 51 C was in either one or possibly two really bad accidents?
I had read that the early FT's were permanently coupled, so as to be considered one unit, for crew purposes. But, did not realize how. So I probably thought it was with a drawbar. But I also recall hearing that elsewhere, too. So that may be a pretty common misconception.
They had great speed, but like all Alco-GE products for about 30 years, were filthy, gassy, and smoked like a house a fire.
