I've often wondered if the US Navy's small nuke plants as found on subs and some surface ships could be installed along the HSR RoW to provide the power. I don't support the Palmdale route, preferring the Grapevine, but at least some consideration of "nukular" power has to be made, otherwise every time the train leaves a station the lights in California will flicker and dim.
