Then why not keep him or her on the same train
as the engineer? Is that "master conductor"
supposed to follow the train in a hirailer --
with no restroom -- for 12 hours? And isn't much
better to have eyes on both sides of the cab to
watch both sides of the train for problems
and to see signals?
This "race to the bottom" economically must stop.
The UP is making record profits, and so is the BNSF --
yet they want to cut the number of employees?
Ridiculous and shameful!
