The F-M switchers.

They had a "high power" button, which I believe put then through forward transition. There was some sort of timing circuit which reverted them back through backwards transition after a certain amount of inactivity,

Maximumn field start. Forestalling (switching 3) was minimum field start with no forward transition.
I found the best acceleration was achieved by putting the switch in in Switching 2, opening the throttle, releasing the brakes, and as soon as the engine loaded and started to move, flip the switch up to forestalling. You could really leave that guy with his jaw flapping in the breeze as the rear steps went by. Never got the chance to compare it to an F-M.
