The Mouse that roared!

There is no final route in any certified EIS/EIR finalized beyond segment two, as far as I know. So there is still a lot of room, to learn from our actual experience, to review some of the earlier dumb assumptions on which this was planned, and make needed changes as Dr. Wachs seemed to indicate.

So what do your operational planning assumptions, gravity modeling, and engineering cost estimates show is the most cost effective route, having the highest ridership, with the greatest cost benefit ratio, and the least negative impacts? I've always been interested in how you'd do it?

Where are the future demands, what are the options for serving them, and how can we accomplish that at the most reasonable cost, with the highest benefits, while attempting to create the least negative impacts? This is how we used to design these things. And, we still have freeways that haven't completely fallen down (yet), running water, working toilets, and the lights are still on, as testament to those days.

Maybe we should go back to some of these basic principles of efficiency and equity, and the use of observable facts to better understand these things, and make our decisions? Rather than letting fools, try to force us into interpreting our view of all things (even technical or scientific) through the dubious and distorted prism so often used by the simple minded followers of the simplistic dogma's of Karl Marx or Ayn Rand.

You seem fixated on Tejon because you have appear to have defined the High Speed market only as requiring the minimum time from SFO to LAX. Is this where there is the greatest need, and does this satisfy those efficiency or equity criteria?

Are you also basing this route choice via Tejon on the assumption of the pending intrastate aviation capacity "crisis" predicted in the early 90's, that seems to still dominate the thinking among those you are criticizing, even though this assumption has turned out to be completely wrong?

Maybe, you're right, and it is all part of the vast secret BART/SMART/NWP conspiracy, and we can't really do anything about it, but whine?

But, I suspect that if they chose to go via Tejon tomorrow (which I also prefer), with or without a jog to Palmdale (to serve a potential high desert market of up to 500,000 who actually would use it, and would benefit from it), I have no doubt that you'd be whining about that, too.

As Rosanna Rosannadanna used to say, it's always something..........

Maybe, by working hard, and analyzing the facts and making good arguments to our representatives for some of these much needed improvements and reforms, we can get folks to make changes. That might require some hard work, though. And, it is so much easier just to whine, and blame sinister evil forces that are beyond our control, for the things we don't like.
