You are completely wrong about that. Studies have proved
that most people who were stopped from committing suicide
were still alive 25 years after they attempted that awful act, and if
they had died before that 25-year period was up, they died of
natural causes.
I do thank you for at least stopping and thinking about the
poor unfortunate who committed suicide.
It is a very sad fact that most kids in the PAMPA area (Palo
Alto-Menlo Park-Atherton) are put under constant high pressure
by the schools and by their parents to be very high achievers,
and never are given time to just be kids. They have no free time
whatsoever, and get programmed to accept that piling up lots of
money and expensive possessions is the true meaning of "success".
That is a very unhealthy belief system.
I grieve for that poor boy and his family and friends. He was only
15 years old, with his whole life ahead of him. What a tragedy.
And yes, I really feel awful for the poor Caltrain engineer and all
the first responders who had to deal with the aftermath.
Yes, these suicides cause problems for commuters, but the problem
with suicides is that when a person is hurting so bad that they
want to kill themselves, they are incapable of caring about how
their actions will affect others.
Why don't we all agree that being loving and compassionate and
wise is the best way to go, and try to really listen to our kids and
accept them as they are. and give them plenty of free time to just
be kids. School districts have got to stop overloading kids with
too much homework and also must stop allowing kids to take more
than one or two Advanced Placement or honors classes at a time. And
the schools and parents must put a stop to the horrendous bullying
that goes on all too often. People must STOP abusing kids-- NOW!
If all these things were done, there would be far fewer teen suicides,
including by Caltrain.
