MILW electrification

My recollection is that the Milwaukee substations were spaced about 30 miles apart, plus or minus a bit. Most were located out in the sticks and not in an established town. The Rocky Mountain division was boosted to 3300 volts; not sure if this was done on the Coast division. I heard that they boosted voltage by shimming something in the substation motor-generator sets. A couple of the Rocky Mountain substations (Janney, E of Butte) received equipment from Cleveland Union Terminal when that electrification ended in 1953.

Several MILW substations still exist today. From east to west:

Rocky Mountain division: Loweth, Gold Creek, Ravena, Primrose.
Coast Division: Taunton, S. Cle Elum, Renton.

Some are just abandoned and others have been re-purposed.
