Consider also a daytrip to The Columbia River Gorge, with BNSF on the GOOD Side ( Washington State, also the sunny side ) and EwePee ( boo ) on the Ory-GUN side. Both mainlines are quite accessable, BNSF's maybe more so due to the close proximity of 2 - lane State Hwy. 14. While the U.P. mainline is easy to follow on Interstate 84, access can be an issue due to the fences between the two; also a bit harder to get turned around if you see something cool going the other way. Bring lots of change ( dollar coins too ) for the toll bridges across the Columbia at Cascade Locks and Hood River.
