I have always considered the Columbia River gorge one of the most scenic areas in the United States. Of course it helps that you have mainline railroads on both sides - the UP on the Oregon side and BNSF on the Washington side.

The Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum near Stevenson WA is worth a visit. They have a F9A unit on display outside. It is painted SP&S but actually is ex NP.
