For years Novato was thought to be something other than a part of Marin. But when it came time for Novato to show its muscle by closing Hamilton Air Force Base rather than turn it into a lite mfg center with a private airport unlike what Sacramento did Novato ended up as a spoiler.

They are trying to revitalize the town by rebuilding "old Town" into a mini Mill Valley. When this transition is completed they will become, they think, a force in Marin. They already have a wine and cheese festival.

In spite of the now long forgotten 101 Commission report which was completed in 80's and which called for the implmentation of rail transit, they are now taking the same position as they did with Hamilton AFB. Don't hold your breath for either Smart or Freight on the NWP. As I have said in the past bring on the rail buses or your hikers as this is what the future of this resource will be!
