I'm fuzzy on whether allegedly functional PTC relieves railroads of the 49 CFR requirements for Automatic Train Stop.
Metrolink is showing both PTC and ATS in service on the Orange Subdivision, which suggests these BNSF locomotives would require extensive modifications to have ATS equipment installed. That, or a waiver, or the BNSF units are simply used on other lines.
Does the absence of a COMM line on freight locomotives make any difference, or do they have to disable the door interlocks on the passenger unit for it to load?
