The California Southern built through this area, from San Bernardino to National City, in 1882. Santa Fe built the Lake Elsinore ( aka: Lake SMELL - Some - More ) District from Porphyry to the new station of Elsinore Jct. in 1927. This was due to construction of Railroad Canyon reservoir on the original CS line South of Perris. In this manner, Santa Fe continued to serve Temecula until the flood of 1935 destroyed the right of way South of Elsinore. the above information from John Signor's book Santa Fe Los Angeles Division.
