The California Southern rails thru Temecula Canyon were wiped out by rain three times around the turn the last century (1900). Took a look into north end of canyon once and saw the old R/W. It could be seen in the rock cliff but it was heavily eroded. Santa Fe gave up on that route & built the "coastal" route from LAX-SAN.
