Because a idiot county supervisor, Zev Yaralofsky (sp) wanted the rail line to go to/by/near the never fully developed Palmdale Airport, the line now is planned through Antelope Valley. The line should have gone up the I 5 corridor, with short tunnels where needed. Once in the San Joaquin Valley, straight as piss up the I 5 ROW. A second track would have seperated at the 99/5 split going to Bakersfield and Fresno. The outside consultants (Japan and French) all said the current route is all wrong.
