I don't disagree outright with any of the postings regarding SMART. It has many shortcomings.It will probably cost more and take longer to built than projected. It does not take you into SF. But what are the reasonable alternatives? An ever increasingly crowded Hwy 101 with no pallelel routes. To not use the existing Right of Way would not make sense. Look to the future . Gasoline is selling for four dollars a gallon. Each week crude oil sells for a new all time high. What will gas cost in five years? SMART as envisioned is a start . In forty years it could have electric trains taking you into San Francisco. Meanwhile Sonoma county will not magically stop growing . How will you route all the additional traffic?
