3,000 per day, ain't that high a bar, that's 1,500 initial round trips, and I suspect that in this area this will attract a fair "walk" on, and bide access. Given that it serves several relatively higher density centers of housing and jobs on-line, if this represents the 40-45% of transit trips that are home to work, that works out to about 600 or so of those initial trips, so suddenly 500 parking spaces doesn't seem that low.
That ridership bar is too low, in my opinion. And, Smart clearly does need more parking on the North end, as I suspect that the demand from Santa Rosa south will be higher, as the 101 sucks worse, like we find on things like the Gold Line. And, like the Gold Line, this lack of parking will deter much higher ridership, until it is rectified. So, ironically, despite this park and ride access deficiency, the early ridership estimate is probably not that far off....
Now that we have that real issue out of the way, how about that idea for a SMART boycott...? I sure hope that is a promise. Because, just maybe, if you really hate trains, with a special emphasis for the "evil" SMART, the "evil" NWP, and that most sinister "evil" train of all, "evil" BARTD, as much as your posts have indicated over the years, over, and over, and over, and over, again, then no one who would ride it would really want you on the train anyhow...........?
