Most cases they are taken to a hotel provided by the railroad where they are supposed to rest. Depending on the railroad, they are at the hotel until they receive their call for the next run. If trainmen have a regular away point, some may have an extra car there so they can go do stuff besides go to the hotel. (they are still responsible for getting their rest, although it can be a problem if the golf match etc... lasts too long.)
