It's the 2 1/2 hour mandate that was foolish to begin with, it has to do with this idiotic vision that this somehow is an unmet travel need in CA, which was bull$3it, to justify the inordinate super high speeds and for political grandstanding and creating a golden opportunity to rob us all.

Then they had to go via the east Valley, where the population is, to show voters there, with real very real needs, that they to would be "served", too. Which sounds almost sensible looking at the success of the San Joaquin and the congestion into and out of the Bay Area/ However, being "served" in this case, meant the taxpayers being served to a cabal of wired contractors to build a bloated fiasco, and have their pockets picked.

Air traffic volu9mes that were going to "overwhelm" Oakland, Burbank, and Sacramento airports have actually fallen below 1990's levels and never recovered due to a number of real changes in demand, and still have not recovered. Meanwhile, our freeway volumes in all of our primary intercity corridors are at record levels and congestion is costing billions in annual delay to motorists and commerce. While this giant politically planned boondoggle, designed by political fools and wired contractors, sucks billions into the line from Chowchilla to Wasco, which serves none of those millions of residents and taxpayers stuck in all of that traffic.

Your argument that this is the best we can do to salvage something form the pile of bull$#it is utterly idiotic from a professional standpoint. But. it does sound just like some of the bull$#it I too once was occasionally forced to babble, to pander for my paycheck. The problem with that thinking is that it just enables these people to waste more and more taxpayer resources, while our real travel needs go unmet, costing us billions in lost time, fuel, depreciation, and driving costs.

The original basis and planning assumptions used to plan and design this project were complete bull#$it. And, this latest "tweak" to the "runaway money train" "business plan" doesn't fix any of that. Meanwhile, billions of taxpayer dollars are being merrily pissed away, while over a hundred properly planned projects, with real benefits, that are cost effective, remain mostly unfunded in our most congested intercity rail corridors.

Heckuva job, right?
