And that is what I found so amazing (if somewhat "unbelievable") when I first read this thread. We are so used to government being the only source of passenger rail projects and their consultants and contractors feeding at that trough. But FEC appears to be a more "forward thinking" than say the UP (let's sell the tracks to the local entities, but then dictate the rules so that we still control them). What if UP created a high speed service from LA to Las Vegas, LA to Phoenix, and Bay Area-Sacramento-Reno. Nah....
