BART-Bechtel was profoundly ashamed of building a railroad; that's why they came up with the farcical notion of "supported duorail". And of course electric railways beat out monorails in the real world for a number of reasons. We all know that. But I do think BART should have considered the French rubber-tyred subway tech just because BART is so bloody noisy.
If one is so concerned about winds blowing over railcars and one goes for the "Hummer" wheelbase approach why not Brunel's 7" gauge. Even more space age.
I think Bechtal resorted to the old dart board; SP just made sure there's no spot on the board labeled standard gauge.
