I would definitely write to Amtrak customer service about the Seattle employee His superiors might tell him not to do that in the future.
Last year I wrote a polite note to Amtrak about poor quality of at your seat meal service on Coast Starlight and they gave me a $30 voucher for use on a future trip. I recently used it to upgrade to business class. Having a big problem with a room would probably get some kind of voucher for your wife's future travels
