I bought the 31 day pass at half off ($100). For my commute (Petaluma to San Marin), that's 18 one ways at $5.50 each until the pass almost pays for itself. I have ridden 5 times this week. The Tuesday 5:19 PM northbound from San Marin was pretty crowded (not many empty seats, bike storage at max capacity, if not over). The 5:49 PM Wednesday and Thursday evenings less so. The engineer conductor on the 5:49 PM is the only one who checked my Clipper card in all my rides this week. The Thursday 7:55 AM southbound from Petaluma was pretty full, the 8:25 AM on Friday much less so. The bike storage is good, but needs some improvement, especially the hanging racks. The engineer conductor who checked my ticket is also the only one who directed me to open bike storage when I boarded Thursday night.

The initial ridership data they presented at the board meeting this week is interesting, but hardly enough to really indicate trends yet. A lot of people take this week off with the Monday holiday. The October numbers (when the monthly passes are full price, and the Eco passes start) will be more telling.

Overall, it's a nice way to commute, especially when there's brush fire in Novato Narrows and 101 North (my way home) is down to one lane during evening rush hour, like Wednesday night. I wish the monthly passes were always $100, not an introductory rate. Knowing how Cubic extorts for simple changes to Clipper, I doubt we will see something like this again soon, unless ridership falls off a cliff.
