DC traction motors will burn up faster than AC motors. I have been told that AC motors wont burn out because of the AC current. I had a DC traction motor lock up on my crew the other day and we could only travel at 2 MPH. DC motors dont give you much warning on when they go bad, they just go bad. AC motors I am told, require less servicing than AC because they are built "bullet proff".
