Crossing Shasta Lake

Saw a picture of the Shasta lake crossing; a one vehicle lane each way with a double tracked mainline for SP on a lower deck. The pic says it's 1947, about when the dam was built, so it's logical to assume it was the first bridge there. Pre-Interstate....
Is the current bridge (I-5) using the same bridge for it's Southbound lanes, and a newer Northbound bridge built beside? Also, was there any significant changes to the original SP route before the lake was formed? If so, where was the original route located? Map?
I think if the original route was surveyed by the same guys that did the Weed-Eugene thru Medford, OR, then it was a rollercoaster ride of a route with 3.2% grades.
