A couple of years ago I spent quite a bit of time at the Shasta Historical Society in Redding and at the Dam Visitors Center. At one place or the other they have maps of what the lake was going to flood and showed the railroad and US Hwy 99. I made copies of the Salt Creek area and one of them includes the river as far north as the US Hwy 99 crossing of the Sacramento near Pollock where it turns up Salt Creek. The copy I have shows SP tunnels 4 and 5. With the lake level dropping you might be able to see tunnel 5. The elevation of the railroad at the north end of the tunnel was about 900 feet. The elevation of the railroad at the south end of tunnel 4 is about 875. Find out the lake level and you will know if you can see these. It doesn't look like there are any roads in the area so the railroad grade might be the easiest. There is a very steep cliff face on the east side of the river upstream from tunnel 5.

If you go either place I've mentioned, look for Department of the Interior, U. S. Geological Survey maps.
