Amtrak and Metrolink have joint ticketing through their machines in LOSSAN. Amtrak and Metrolink through the Rail-to-Rail program honor each others tickets to join stations, allowing rail passengers more flexability. Metrolink has a joint ticketing program for transfers to and from most transit operators along the line.
Local agencies like SANCAG and OCTA have dedicated significant resources to double track, crossovers, signalling, stations, and parking to imrprove the access to and reliability of Amtrak and the local commuter trains. Smaller agencies like VCTC, SBCAG, and SLOCOG have prioritized and delivered critical projects to improve service. Caltrans Rail, though hamstrung by the Governor's office, has worked with limited resources to coordinate and integrate its investments in the LOSSAN with local agencies. This has resulted in record setting ridership, increased fair box revenues, and up to 80% support by Californian's for more rail passenger services.
Rather than attacking OCTA one of the best friends that rail passengers have in California, maybe RailPAC might want to engage in effective actions to promote positive public policy for rail passenger service. Maybe they could work to assure that the rail bonds about to be voted on are spent effectively? Or to lobby the Governor's office to assure that new cars, which the voters voted for, are ordered in a timely manner to relieve the now chronic overcrowding on LOSSAN's peak travel trains?
Nope, the priority of RailPAC's leadership is to whine about two midday trains stopping at two stations to test the markets for improved access and connectivity, that's a truly effective rail passenger advocacy organization, isn't it?
