Bob 2, whoever you are, you are missing the point entirely. OCTA stated at a LOSSAN TAC meeting that they wanted these midday trains stopped and "this would have no effect on punctuality" in the corridor. As you probably know, current Surfliner OTP is in the 70% range, in spite of generous amounts of recovery time. San Diego is still 51% single track, OC 28%. For one or two pols in OC to selfishly say that they must have more trains at their local stations is a position that we have to oppose, based on the extreme negative effects this will have on OTP, and in my view longer distance ridership. It's the longer distance rider that supports this service through fares, not the Rail to Rail or transit rider paying about $2 per ride.

The logical next step is a complete overhaul of ALL the timetables in the corridor. We should have commuter type equipment performing multiple stop services and the currently over used Surfliner cars on limited stop trains. They were not designed for, nor appropriate for, "commuter" type services. I received many positive comments at the last LOSSAN Board meeting for this idea. If you know about scheduling of single track railroads you will understand that you cannot change one or two trains without major impacts on the rest of the timetable.
