Maybe you've heard the term "Streetcar Suburb"...the birthplace of sprawl.

And that most light rail systems are dependent not upon connecting bus service, but on massive parking lots (or garages).

And today's light rail lines are far longer than the trolley lines of before; they are more approximate to an interurban line than trolleys. Why? To serve the far-flung suburbs and the nice, transit-oriented parking lots.
