I submit buses are appropriate to discuss on a rail site. Passenger rail ops here and around the world routinely use buses as part of their service network. Look at Amtrak here in California with service to the Northbay and connecting Bako to LA, via Tejon-Grapevine of course.
In the case of streetcars and trolleybuses the connection was quite direct 600-750vdc via overhead lines. Cincinnati actually had PCC's operating under dual overhead - I dunno if they were planning to convert to trolley coach. Both modes shared the same substations and feeders - a very wise move which I think Seattle messed up on with going 1200vdc for its light rail.
Plus the tech is sometimes directly transferable from bus to rail, as with battery-powered railcars.
Finally you just know the insiders are sure to promote BRT over rail using battery powered bus as a cheaper(no physical plant)alternative to light rail, as the BRT now green with diesel gone. As always keeping electric light rail will continue to be a fight.
