Appendage dredges up fully-loaded cost vs. stated salary. It's an old story. Adding standard allowances for health benefits, pension or 401K match, social security employer share, unemployment taxes, workers comp and probably a few other odds n ends can push a "salary" up by 50-100%, though getting to 100% usually requires billing by a consultant where the overhead is REALLY high.
Yes, all that stuff is part of what somebody has to budget for when paying staff. No, it's not what the staff gets in their checks. What is in the check, after taxes, is what has to pay the rent. All that other stuff is why Uber and the rest try to use the "independent contractor" scam that avoids paying anything other than direct cost, even taxes. Somehow, I don't see SMART getting away with the obvious violation of labor rules common decency that Uber does.
