Max, just wait until someone decides to withhold their Social Security checks for political reasons....
As you will note, most of this thread is the usual predictable trolls, the Mouse, and a few folks who seem to get easily riled up by such grandstanding (Ken and John on talk radio have been going bonkers about this...), but who clearly know nothing nor appear to care much about either the funding processes, or the law.
Not that I have anything good to say about either side in this dispute. The thieves who've run the CAHSRA have destroyed public credibility, wasted billions in scarce rail funding on this self dealing "gravy train" fiasco, and CA's past four Governor's and the Legislature have failed to monitor or to oversee the "runaway money train" project.
The FRA under Obama was utterly incompetent in its administration of these funds and in their oversight, and the Trump Administration has done nothing except to use it as a political wedge issue primarily to gin up exactly this kind of reaction from their base.
Meanwhile, CA taxpayers continue to sit in some of the worst traffic in the world, costing us billions of dollars in annual avoidable lost time and productivity, while we still have a single track mainline from LA to San Diego (only 200 km.), on the second busiest rail passenger corridor, and busiest, most congested intrastate route in the US. Nearly half of the LOSSAN project list put together in 2008, which were taken off of the Federal funding request at the direction of Governor Schwarzenegger, so they wouldn't "compete" with the HSR grant request, are still not finished, nor fully funded, today 10 years later.
Worse, we still see some folks still working overtime (some apparently on the public nickel....???) to keep spending more on the continued "planning" and "environmental" unaffordable segments like the 35 billion dollar "Pacheco Pass" route, under the guise of "work already committed", which is utter bull$#it.
So you can expect that this CAHSRA fiasco will continue to generate this kind of reaction, and will continue to provide plenty of "red meat" for legitimate critics, fearmongering nimby's, various stripes of politicians spewing their respective nonsense to their respective bases, and these raging trolls...
