Friday evening Los Angeles radio station KNX played a portion of an interview with one of the investigators of this crash. He said the crew had been interviewed, and it reported applying the brakes before the signal - with the implication (based on the investigator's next comment that the brakes were being examined) that the brakes failed.
Do onboard recorders show the time and duration of brake application, and if so can that be traced to see, geographically, where the train was when the brakes were first applied?
