Gosh, Mike -- that's a really generous offer. I think NNRy could benefit greatly from having someone of your caliber running things. The reality of it is, however, that Mr. Bassett is only part of the problem -- the Foundation Board allows him to continue on his way and they seem to take no abiding interest in all that is going on. Dave Griner left a great job back east and came to work for us. What a deal -- it was the beginning of what I think was a golden age at NNRy. Top-notch people on staff and the shop and railroad functioning like it had never done before. Jason Lamb, with ten times the knowledge and maturity of anyone else his age, Chris Brophy, with his innate sense for things mechanical and strong mentoring attitude, Jarrod -- a diesel mechanic without comparison, Jeremy, with his innovative and cost-saving skills for repairing and fabricating parts and materials, Jordan, still in high school and a volunteer who spent his money not on things of youthful pursuit but on mechanical repair books for steam and diesel. All these guys were truly what made NNRy great, along with a huge roster of volunteers who were delighted to learn and participate -- not just "play with trains." They're all gone, Mike -- chased away by fear of being included in FRA fines for wilfull violation of NNRy's own rules at Mr. Bassett's instruction, or bullied and intimidated by a theory X manager, and , in a couple of cases, fired when there was no other way to run them off. Mr. Bassett clearly does not like challenges to his operation style, and the Board, either wilfully or tacitly, continues to allow him to run NNRy into the ground. I care deeply about the future of NNRy, but I wouldn't recommend it right now to my worst enemy.
