Re SP trains 51/52, the San Joaquin Daylight. While I do not have an exact date, GS types worked this between Oakland and Bakersfield until late in the summer of '56, maybe even September. Diesels took over for the climb through the Tehachapi's. Again, I would go by the term "regular use" here. Quite possible that steam subbed for diesels even into '56, but I'll still stay with my original estimate (and admit it if I'm wrong)!
