There is an old "Video Rails" tape on the SP where it shows the changeover from Diesel to Steam at FRESNO, I think it was. Can't remember what tape or which direction of travel. But I think it was STEAM taking the San Joaq. Day. back to Oakland.
Oakland was kind of a gathering point for all West Div. steam before they were sent to Bayshore.
Those "memorable excursions" you mention using 1744, 4460, 4274, 2728, 2475, 2248 and WP 94 and 334, I have on motion picture film. I'm in the process right now of disposing of them, as it would not be favorable material for the youngsters at a Winterail type event.
The CSRM library folks want them--but I haven't decided anything concrete...
By the way, the "cryptic" messages signed by "D" in this thread are from Dick Seleye in Seattle. I think he was a contestant on "Whats My Line" and learned the guessing scenarios there.
