The UP "Santa Cruz Local" made another run today to extract unwanted coal from the Cemex plant in Davenport. There some good returns on the weather radar, so I waited until things dried out later in the afternoon. The local promptly rolled through at La Selva Beach at 3:58PM with a wintry sky of cumulus clouds. I zipped down to MP 108 for a few B&W's of the local cresting uphill, and then to Walker Street for the old packing district. Watsonville has become gentrified compared to when I first started taking photos of the local in the mid-1990's Buchwald's old warehouse now makes fancy furniture and the Del Monte Cafe has lost its neon sign advertising broiled steaks. The lack of produce trucks or reefers on Walker Street shows how wrong it's gone in Watsonville.
