BNSF deserves all the blame for allowing the Woodinville Sub to be abandoned between Boeing in Renton and Woodinville, WA. And maybe a big " OOPS " from King County Metro Transit for NOT even bothering to try and railbank the line for future commuter rail or light rail use. Considering the Woodinville Sub paralleled the most congested freeway ( I - 405 ) in Washington State, this re-use should have been a no - brainer. Guess I was right -- NO BRAINS !!!
In later days BNSF had no active customers between Scopa ( the spur into Boeing Renton ) and Snohomish, except an occasional carload of sheetrock or dimensional wood into Woodinville. The Spirit of Washington Dinner Train contracted with BNSF for engine crews on their very popular run between Renton and St. Michelle Winery in Woodinville, often times 2 roundtrips a day in summer and on weekends. The last through freight that I knew of using the Woodinville Sub was a double stack detour in January ? 1996, due to severe weather & track issues along Puget Sound. I have pics of said train tied down at Monster Coal Mine Rd. crossing / Black River Jct., WA.
